Review:

While playing the quest game you can be the only hero who will defeat all the enemies and become the one and the only winner. (A kind of Bruce Willis:) Who can tell the difference of good quest from the bad one? May be a player is the only person to judge? Today’s game Samorost 2 is an example, that shows how an experimental free online game can win hearts, become one of the greatest quest adventures and make all the players wait for the sequel.

A long time ago, back in 2003 Jakub Dvorsky has developed and released his project that was called Samorost. Jakub is originally from Czechoslovakia and this explains the strange name of the game which can be translated as a piece of wood that reminds a human being. This was his first online project of the quest – adventure game. And as more internet projects or pictures can become the top rated in a day, the same happened to Samorost original game.

The number of the players grew every hour until it reached the limit and the server where the game was hosted went down. Isn’t this showing the real game popularity?

So, let’s see what is so unique in this game?

The main hero is a little gnome who lives on a far-far away planet. And he always has to solve a lot of puzzles he gets into. In the first part the gnome’s planet is in danger and he must prevent it from the collision with another planet. In two years Jakub together with his team Amanita Design releases his sequel called Samorost 2. In the sequel you will be rescuing your dog that was kidnapped by the pair of disgusting aliens.

You will have to pass through 11 unique locations and to solve 15 puzzles. The great point is that the original graphics remained the same. If you played the original version you won’t forget the graphics made in a great and professional mix of nature photographs, high quality graphics and Flash graphics effects. While playing you will have a feeling of traveling in a real forest, caves, deserts and so on and all the game seems to be breathing. Your action remained the same – click on the objects to understand what they can do and what have to be done to help little gnome pass through the level, get to the next one and save his dog.

As in previous part, you will be given a pass code to start from the level you haven’t finished in case you have to quit the game. So, either print-screen it or just write in order not to pass the levels you have already completed. The second part will take you about 3 hours to be finished, so I advice you not to plan anything and free your evening to enjoy a great game.

The OST is as unique as a game and you will miss it in some levels when there is no music at all but just sounds of nature and your actions. And it would be great if the music can be released as a separate soundtrack and be played in Winamp. By the way, the name of 2 men who composed the music and made all background sound effects is the same: Tomas Dvorak.

Unfortunately, many of the fans of the original web based free title will be disappointed by the fact that Samorost 2 is released as a flash version packed in one file and sold by the price of $6.90. There is a great thing that the game can be played offline, but despite the fact that its size became twice larger, the game itself became shorter. But if you have together two parts of the game, the price of $6.90 is low comparing to the professional work done and original game-play. It’s a must-have title for all quest and adventure fans.
